The Director of Plant Operations at Cleveland Clinic directs engineering operations of the Plant Operations department to ensure alignment with the missions, values and objectives of the department and organization. The director plans, organizes, directs and controls services for the maintenance of buildings, ground and utility/biomedical engineering for Weston, Main Campus and off-site buildings: Krupa Center, Weston Family Health Center, WPB Health and Wellness Center. They will also maintain the safety management program to ensure reduction to risk of injury to patients, staff and visitors. Assures compliance with applicable codes and regulations as applied to buildings and services provided at Cleveland Clinic Florida.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensures all departmental work complies with acceptable codes and standards of JCAHO, AHCA, NFPA, OSHA and other regulatory agencies.

  • Inspects the appearance of the facility and grounds and operation of all the equipment routinely to ensure the meeting or exceeding of established standards.

  • Implements and maintains the maintenance program on all plant equipment and systems at all Cleveland Clinic Florida facilities.

  • Performs routine inspections and corrects all deficiencies in a timely manner.

  • Assists in establishing the order or priorities of all construction/renovation and special projects to minimize disruption of facility services.

  • Manages all in-house construction/renovations and other special projects as assigned by the CAO.

  • Serves as facility Safety Officer and is accountable for the integrity and maintenance of all fire safety systems and equipment with the facilities. Maintains all required documentation related to JCAHO, AHCA and hospital policy and procedures.

  • Ensures compliance with JCAHO, AHCA,NFPA, OSHA, State and County regulations and corrects any deficiencies within the recommended time period.

  • Demonstrates a sound working knowledge of all areas of the facility, its equipment and systems, able to identify system components and their function parameters of operation as measured by thermometers, gauges, indicators and test instruments, as well as identifying major shut off locations.

  • Implements all valid inspection recommendations within the recommended time period.

  • Demonstrates good judgment in emergency situations by assessing situations and taking appropriate actions.

  • Enforces standards of performance using performance management processes to develop and correct staff performance when applicable.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • Master's degree preferred.

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, engineering or related field required.

  • Ten years or more of experience in upper level Facilities Management may be substituted in lieu of a degree.

  • Knowledge of JCAHO, AHCA, NFPA, OSHA and other regulatory agency codes and standards. Able to read blueprints.

Certifications:

  • Certified Professional in Healthcare Management (CHPM), Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP) or Professional Engineer (PE) preferred.

Work Experience:

  • A minimum of eight years experience in plant engineering with at least three years in a managerial capacity with a large hospital or other applicable large plant operations experience.

Physical Requirements:

  • This position requires moderate physical effort (lift/carry up to 25 lbs.) to lift supplies and equipment; frequent prolonged standing and walking with occasional reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling and crouching.

  • Manual dexterity and mobility required.

  • Special Environmental Demands: May be subjected to injury from moving parts of equipment and exposure to hot or noisy equipment.

  • Additionally may be subjected to hazards from electrical, mechanical, power equipment and exposure to toxic chemicals, infectious diseases.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.

Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $40.48

Maximum hourly: $61.74
