Do you love taking on big challenges that require exceptionally creative solutions? Do you deeply understand how an incredible camera experience should work? As part of our Camera Technologies group, you’ll help design the innovative technology that allows each generation of Apple products to produce photos even more incredible than the last. You’ll design and develop groundbreaking ideas for everything involved in our camera systems, from sensor to lens. You’ll collaborate with teams across Apple to research, design, develop, test, and qualify camera hardware for Apple products. Together, we’ll craft a magical photography experience that redefines what millions of customers can expect from their cameras.

Key Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in Image Quality and/or Camera Systems.

  • Expert level in image quality objective and subjective metrics as well as evaluation methodology.

  • Excellent understanding of Camera Systems.

  • Knowledge of Optics and camera test setup.

  • Good understanding of camera components and functions. Knowledge of megapixel CMOS image sensor technology, lens selection and qualification, implementation of camera systems in mobile products

  • Proficient in camera ISP pipeline and camera capture modes.

  • Experience with objective camera bench testing and subjective image quality analysis

  • Fundamentals in digital signal and image processing, pattern recognition, data analysis.

  • Good programming skills. Preferred languages: Matlab, Python, Objective C, C/C++ and Swift

  • Experience driving algorithm development from prototype to real-time deployment.

Description

  • Partner up with architecture team or design lead teams to provide in-depth image quality feedback on next generation of cameras! - Create new model of camera system to predict impact of a specific component onto final image quality. - Deliver executive level presentations of results. - Design new lab tests to evaluate image quality depending on the camera application. Design and develop new image quality measurements, which includes designing new test chart, defining a mathematical model or algorithm, writing new software, defining a methodology to verify validity of the measurement. - Lead camera architects, optical designers and simulation team onto what to simulate to illustrate the pros and cons of a camera. - Make new experiments to isolate the contribution of each element of a camera, lens, sensor, software etc. - Make simple model of a camera systems, to better predict expected image quality.

Education & Experience

M.S./Ph.D. in Engineering, Imaging Science, Physics, Color Science, or equivalent preferred.

  • At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $131,500.00 and $243,300.00, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs.
