Burns & McDonnell Transmission Planning Consultant (Phoenix) in Phoenix, Arizona

Description

Performs a broad range of studies and other consulting services such as transmission planning and operational studies consisting of power flow, transient stability, transfer capability, short-circuit, voltage analysis, harmonics analysis, electromagnetic, and reliability. Evaluates regulatory conditions and risks by applying NERC, FERC, and regional requirements, policies and procedures, TPL compliance, and generator interconnection principles. Independently executes transmission system planning studies using industry software such as PSS/E, PSLF, EMTP/ATP, PSCAD, SKM, or ETAP. Performs independent evaluation, selection, adaptation, and modification of standard engineering techniques for electric transmission system planning procedures and criteria. Conducts data analysis and interpretation of engineering, financial, and economic conditions and results, and subsequent technical business implications to client projects. Analyzes life-cycle costs by developing and incorporating technical assumptions regarding capital costs, operation and maintenance costs, and performance estimates. Conducts technical and business-related risk assessments that evaluate impacts associated with rules implemented by regulatory agencies. Develops technical reports and presentations summarizing results of analysis. Develops client presentations, engineering reviews, financial analysis, and contract administration for the design/planning of utility systems. Performs other duties as assigned. Primarily domestic travel required up to 15% for internal meetings and client. Telecommuting permitted up to 30 days per year. Multiple positions available

Qualifications

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or a directly related field from am ABET accredited program plus three (3) years of electric utility, planning, or consulting experience.

Must have at least three (3) years of experience with the following:

  • Transient stability, short circuit, and voltage analysis; NERC, FERC, and regional requirements, policies and procedures; TPL compliance; generator interconnection; or harmonics analysis.

  • Electric transmission systems and transmission system planning processes.

  • PSS/E, PSLF, EMTP/ATP, PSCAD, SKM, or ETAP.

  • PJM, MISO, NEISO, SPP, CAISO, WECC, SERC, ERCOT, or NYISO.

  • Standard engineering, construction, and operation techniques, principles, and procedures associated with power transmission facilities.

  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PPT).

Alternatively, the employer will accept a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a directly related field from an ABET accredited program plus one (1) year of electric utility, planning, or consulting experience in lieu of Bachelor’s plus three (3) years of described experience.

Must have at least one (1) years of experience with the following:

  • Transient stability, short circuit, and voltage analysis; NERC, FERC, and regional requirements, policies and procedures; TPL compliance; generator interconnection; or harmonics analysis.

  • Electric transmission systems and transmission system planning processes.

  • PSS/E, PSLF, EMTP/ATP, PSCAD, SKM, or ETAP.

  • PJM, MISO, NEISO, SPP, CAISO, WECC, SERC, ERCOT, or NYISO
