A Brief Overview The Biomedical Technologist Principal is looked to by Senior hospital leadership for expert guidance on healthcare technology. Assists department Manager and Supervisors with all aspects of program management, including work history data analysis, equipment acquisition planning, installation and testing, outside vendor management, development of policies and procedures, and provision of clinical engineering services. Ensures all program components support accreditation and other state and local codes related to electrical and mechanical equipment safety. Performs rounds on clinical units to verify proper equipment use and operation.

This role possesses manufacturer's training and expertise in at least (3) discrete equipment modalities including but not limited to Clinical Labs, Operating Room, Respiratory Care, Diagnostic Imaging, CE/IT and Advanced Medical Devices and/or systems. The job responsibilities require the ability to work independently, operating, diagnosing and repairing sophisticated clinical systems and devices in a methodical, timely and cost-effective manner. This individual must also possess the ability to train others in the preventive maintenance and repair of equipment specific to his/her area of specialization. The role serves as a technical expert and provides consultation, training and support to both hospital and department staff. The role works closely with all members of the Biomedical Engineering department, providing direct assistance to the Director, Service Manager, Project Manager, Clinical Engineers, Team Supervisors and Team Members to meet our user's needs. The role reports to a Team Supervisor and provides direct assistance to (TS) with team operations as needed.

What you will do Repairs malfunctioning medical devices and systems using experience, training, department and vendor resources so that the device meets manufacturers specification for performance and safety. Performs preventive maintenance, electrical safety and functional testing of medical devices exercising a high degree of technical proficiency using documented department procedures. Maintains accurate records of all work (both productive and non-productive but not including lunch and break) using the departments equipment management database and following established department procedures. Ensures all scheduled monthly reports are 100% completed in the month they are assigned Orders correct parts and service items to complete the repairs and preventive maintenance. Reorders parts if the department is maintaining a stock level. Develops training and provides education to other Biomedical Technicians on devices and systems that the BES is considered and expert. Evaluates competency to ensure technicians can provide effective support. Maintains own competency and stays up to date on specialized devices and systems. ducation Qualifications Technical Diploma in Biomedical Equipment Technology or Electronic Engineering Technologist Required Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related discipline Preferred Experience Qualifications At least eight (8) years experience working as a Biomedical Technologist in a healthcare setting. Required Skills and Abilities Original Equipment Manufacturer or equivalent level of training on devices and systems that BME Specialist is considered expert. Excellent technical knowledge of a broad range of medical devices. Excellent problem-solving skills Excellent understanding and experience using computers, software and the use of equipment management databases. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Good understanding of human physiology as it relates to the use of medical devices. Works well in a team-based environment. Has advanced understanding of the operations and environment that they support such as hospital, clinic, etc. Has advanced experience in their assigned clinical environment. Possesses basic understanding of common clinical terminology as well as that of life sciences such as anatomy and physiology. Can successfully support the solution of organization-level customer service issues and complaints, especially those issues that apply to their area of specialty Is knowledgeable about both local and national public safety and regulatory issues. Possesses advanced understanding and skills related to general electromechanical systems and devices; and a comprehensive understanding of computers and network architecture. Adept at learning on the job as well as teaching and mentoring others. Desirable to be considered a technical expert and can mentor other mentors. Fully experienced with an exceptional skill set or knowledge, works with minimal supervision; capable of serving as a trainer, mentor to junior and mid-level staff. Capable of performing in a lead capacity.
