Role Summary/Purpose

The Lead SQE is a key role in the Wabtec Quality and Reliability organization and is accountable for:

Timely resolution of Supplier quality issues at loco manufacturing shops flexible to work in shifts. Implement containment plan and work on long term corrective actions. Qualify parts and process at the designated suppliers. Audit suppliers for process compliance verification Handling Supplier independently. PPAP Development and Executions. Services support- ISW, Reliability and Field services.

Essential Responsibilities

The Lead SQE has to develop & maintain objectives to achieve the following responsibilities:

  • Analyse and disposition supplier non conformities in timely planner by providing seamless shop support to ensure right quality product delivered to Customer.

  • Conduct regular global and local Non confirming parts review, drive containment and segregation at plant / warehouses, suppliers etc. drive Root Cause Analysis and corrective actions to ensure right quality of parts offered to Manufacturing shops.

  • Upgrade product & process quality at suppliers by reducing supplied part defects using SEI framework.

  • Work closely with plant quality, fulfilment, sourcing, manufacturing and engineering teams to provide seamless shop support to ensure right quality product delivered to Customer.

  • Execute on-time PPAPs in-line with sourcing plans.

  • Collaborate with other functions as required to execute PPAP projects

  • Drive & ensure compliance to supplier facing processes (Audits, PPAP, SCARs, SDRs, etc)

All these responsibilities will need to be discharged in consultation with site SQE leader and other quality leadership team.

Qualifications/Requirements

The candidate shall be a Graduate in Mechanical/Production from a reputed institute & shall have a sound academic record.

The candidate shall have minimum 10-15 years of experience working in a similar profession & industry. (candidates with lesser experience may be considered with appropriate adjustment in role).

He/she needs to have a sound understanding of contemporary manufacturing, control and inspection technologies in one or more of the following product groups/commodities. Expertise would necessarily include first hand work in these areas.

  1. Complex engineered systems like Heat Exchangers, Radiators ,inter after and oil cooler. , Air, Fuel filtration systems for large diesel engine and or traction motors , alternators ,blowers etc. He/she shall also have in-depth understanding of engineering validation plans, manufacturing processes and sub-tier processes.

  2. Fabrication: Light to heavy steel fabrication including welding

Ability to understand & support supplier proposals on fixture design, process & equipment selection, operations & procedures, welder certification & qualification, designing & validating measurement systems for attribute & variable measurement systems.

  1. Non-metallic products:

Ability to understand & support supplier proposals on manufacturing processes, control methods & measurement systems related to a wide variety of non-metallic products including Fibre Reinforced Plastics, Composite materials, Plastic, Rubber bonded products, hoses, Fasteners etc)

Production part approvals: Have a sound understanding of the following: Drawings, specifications, PPAP Process, applicable tools (FMEA, GR&R, Control plans, Sampling, Capability studies, etc.) Understand & use tools rigorously to mitigate risk of non-conformant product from shipping from a supplier's facility. Train & drive suppliers to use our tools & upload objective evidence of PPAP step closure. Work closely with Engineering team to ensure adequate understanding of product risks & severities of failure. Lead robust root cause analysis & corrective actions as required.

Desired Characteristics

  1. Prior work experience in a similar work environment

  2. Knowledge of destructive & non-destructive testing methods in all of the above areas

  3. Candidates with certifications in technology, quality systems, audit or testing areas can be preferred based on relevance of certification

  4. Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification is preferred (Wabtec Employees only).

  5. Ability to cope with multiple complex situations daily.

  6. Preference will be given to Locomotive background candidate.
