Arconic Metallurgical Superintendent in Lancaster, Pennsylvania
Arconic is currently searching for a Metallurgical Superintendent to support our Metallurgy Quality Systems - Global Rolled Products (GRP) business unit, in Lancaster, PA.The successful candidate will provide high level technical knowledge and plant wide leadership for metallurgical requirements of Lancaster products. The position leads the Location in establishing product availabilities and metallurgical practices, leading the Location New Product Development efforts, and providing oversight for disposition of non-conforming product and claims. He/She supervises the Product Metallurgical Engineering Team, including one or more Product Metallurgical Engineering Supervisors, Product Metallurgical Engineers, the Product Systems Professional and Hourly Metallurgical Technicians. This position requires close customer contact, with the expectation that travel to a customer’s location to resolve claims and assist in new product development will at times be required.
Develop and maintain documentation regarding product availabilities, customer specification flow down, and metallurgical practice requirements.
Develop and maintain documentation regarding quality requirements for purchased prime, hardeners, slab or reroll
Coach and train reports on product requirements, customer specification review and specification flow down.
Lead the Location in New Product Development. Advise Sales, Marketing or Customer Service of product availabilities, recommending full Trial & Availabilities reviews for non-standard products. Provide Technical Review of all Trial & Availability requests.
Coach and train reports in effective customer technical support, handling of customer claims, Practice Review / Approval.
Lead MQS in the disposition and documentation of internally questionable material.
Coach and train reports in effective change management for new and revised products and practices.
Advise Production Areas on process and inspection requirements necessary to meet customer product requirements. Work with Production to develop new products for the Location.
Support Production in trialing and qualifying new or modified purchased prime, hardeners, slab or reroll.
Review and approve specifications, practices and claims for assigned customer accounts.
Disposition non-conforming product for assigned customer accounts.
Establish Performance goals consistent with the Business Unit Plan, Metallurgy Quality Systems Department Plan, and other various departments supported by Metallurgy Quality Systems
Lead MQS in monitoring product capability for mechanical properties and assigning problem solving efforts to address poor capabilities.
Coach direct reports in effective problem solving and corrective action skills and use of related systems.
Participate in quality audits as an auditor or auditee
Follow all Quality Systems procedures for Arconic Lancaster.
Bachelor's Degree in Metallurgy, Materials Engineering, or Materials Science from an accredited institution
Minimum of five years’ experience in manufacturing quality
Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
10 years of manufacturing quality experience
Experience in aluminum rolling and metallurgy
Experience working in an ISO9001 or TS / IATF 16949 certified location
Strong computer and data analysis skills; familiarity with Microsoft Office, Minitab and AS400
Good written and verbal Communication skills
Supervisory experience is a plus
