As a Veteran Specialist, you'll develop and align the Veteran Program's focus, mission, vision, and objectives, and establish community resources for veterans. Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and align the Veteran Program’s focus, mission, vision, and objectives.

  • Establish community resources for veterans, including employment, education, support systems, and connections.

  • Lead collaborative community projects enhancing and improving veteran quality of life.

  • Negotiate contract terms and conditions for pre-approved programs with fiscal departments.

  • Represent the organization to attract military and financial support from businesses and organizations.

  • Advocate and educate communities to enhance veteran services/supports.

  • Provide veteran cultural awareness training to team members.

  • Collaborate with Veteran Administration services and community resources to improve veteran care.

  • Organize pro-social activities and engage veterans in the community.

  • Assist individuals in accessing rehabilitative, entitlement, medical, legal, and wellness services.

  • Remain current on laws and regulations influencing veteran care, ensuring quality services.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience Qualifications:

  • Direct experience with military culture.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or a minimum of three years’ experience working in a similar role required.

  • One year of experience delivering services to individuals with mental illness, substance abuse, or developmental disabilities including:

  • Providing one-on-one/group services focused on rehabilitation, recovery, or resilience.

  • Personal military involvement or relevant education.

  • Teaching coping strategies for psychiatric, developmental, or substance abuse issues.

  • Supporting employment, a dysfunctional skill in various settings.

  • Assisting individuals in achieving their treatment goals.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Proficient in case management and rehabilitation techniques.

  • Familiar with challenges faced by veterans with mental illness or substance abuse disorders and accessing community resources.

  • Skilled in evaluating services and providing valuable input within assigned programs.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of producing clear and concise reports.

  • Ability to travel within the service area, covering approximately eighteen counties.
