Hourly Assistant Operator Water Division Public Works Department

Wage: $17.50 per hour Variable hours up to 25 hours per week

Job summary: Under immediate direction, assists in shift operation of the water treatment plant. Monitors, inspects, and operates water treatment plant machines and equipment including remote reservoirs, wells, pumps, motors, chlorinators, filters, chemical feed systems, clarifiers and laboratory equipment. Monitors and inspects process control equipment via computer and visual inspection to ensure proper operation. Enters process and water quality data into computer. Assists in the performance of scheduled and emergency relief operations for Water Purification Plant Operators on rotating shifts. Collects water samples and conducts laboratory quality control analysis of raw, process, and finished water to monitor and adjust the treatment process to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations. Monitors, reads and interprets gauges, dials, and other plant instrumentation to regulate flow rates, system pressure, water elevation, and distribution of water. Records information on paper log sheets and in electronic logs. Receives and responds to public inquiries regarding plant operations. Conducts self in a manner which promotes and supports diversity and inclusivity in the workplace and community. Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required. Post-secondary coursework in engineering or a related field preferred. Preference for knowledge of the use of computers, mathematics, basic chemistry, biology and microbiology principles and procedures; knowledge of the occupational hazard. Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record required. Must be 18 years of age. Must pass criminal background check.
