In this role, you’ll make a difference in the lives of people with substance abuse challenges, and often with co-occurring conditions. You’ll use and grow your skills in compassionate care, crisis intervention and de-escalation, in a supportive and inclusive work environment. This position provides leadership, support, and oversight for all elements of the clinical work in Prevention, Youth and Adult Outpatient, and LAMBDA Drop-In Center., including training & skill development, coaching, performance feedback, and enforcement of program rules. This position ensures adherence to all program and agency’s policies and procedures and assists Program Manager/Associate Director of Outpatient and Prevention Programs to develop and deliver high quality client care in accordance with Horizon Services standards and applicable federal, state, and county regulations. This is a supervisory position and is considered part of the program leadership team. This position will also provide direct client services, such as individual and group counseling, and crisis support.

•            QA & Compliance- follows and enforces program policies and procedures

Responsibilities:   

People Management  

  • Support PM in interviewing SUD Counselor positions.

  • Provide new hire orientation and training for all staff in relation to clinical work, i.e. individual counseling, assessment, group counseling, clinical documentation and treatment planning.

  • Provide ongoing feedback to relevant staff through individual clinical supervision meetings and clinical group supervision meetings.

  • Develop and deliver trainings to staff and other HSI staff as needed and requested. Client Care

  • Serve as designated LPHA (Licensed Practitioner of Healing Arts) for assigned DMC-ODS clients.

  • Provide on-call consultation and support for supervisees during non-regular work hours

  • Ensure quality care for residents/beneficiaries consistent with regulatory standards and program policies and assist in improvement of services as needed

  • Provide crisis support intervention and de-escalation of conflict as needed

  • Develop knowledge of community resources related to health, mental health, finances, case management, and housing;

  • Provide Consult with clinical staff to assess, prioritize, and plan case management referrals and facilitate connecting to off-site resources and care.

  • Assist client to access outside services, as needed/assigned

  • Provide direct counseling services (individual and group)

  • Punctuality and attendance to perform duties as scheduled Comply and enforce HSI’s policies and procedures

  • Enforce/reinforce policies and procedures of the programs and assist in creation of updated policies and procedures

  • Facilitate regular individual meetings and group meetings with supervisees

  • Participate in regular staff meetings, clinical supervision, and trainings

  • Receive, acknowledge and address resident/beneficiary complaints in a timely manner as needed

  • Ensure adequate documentation of services by relevant staff,

  • perform random audit of files on a monthly basis with support of Compliance Manager

  • Maintain a working knowledge of recovery and evidence-based practices, as well as contract requirements

  • Other support and supervisory duties as assigned by the Chief Program Officer.

  • Experience with SUD issues, both youth and adult

  • Experience with evidence-based practices and de-escalating clients

  • Ability to communicate effective cross- functionally – knows who needs to know what.

  • Able to exercise good judgment and maintain healthy boundaries with clients.

  • Able to stay awake and alert during shift

  • Good computer skills: word, data entry, write reports

    Must be able to physically assist beneficiaries who are undergoing seizure or other major withdrawal symptoms to include ambulatory escort to a Medical Center.  

    QUALIFICATIONS: (education and work experience)  

  • Required: Clinical License (MFT, LPCC, LCSW, or related license) or Post Degree and registered with the BBS as a Associate in counseling related field.

  • Required: Completion of MA or MS in Clinical Counseling, Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, or a related field

  • Required: 2+ years of experience working with individuals struggling with substance use related issues.

  • Required: Knowledge of effective, evidence-based, interventions with co-occurring multi-cultural, low-income population

  • Preferred: Meet BBS standards to provide clinical supervision to supervisees and sign clinical hours for BBS

  • Preferred: 2+ years of experience training staff on variety of skills, including (but not limited to) verbal de- escalation, group milieu management/therapy, and clinical skills

  • Preferred: 2+ years of experience engaging clients in group-based activities and providing positive programming for clients

  • Preferred: 2+ years of experience providing crisis intervention services in mental health treatment and/or drug and alcohol treatment facility

  • Preferred: 1+ years of experience managing budgetary needs and expenses

  • CPR/First Aid certification or completion within 6 months of hire

  • Valid California driver’s license with a good driving record and car insurance
