NATURE OF WORK:

  1. Inspect commercial and residential sites during various stages of construction and alterations to sites and public ROW to ensure compliance with applicable codes, ordinances, and regulations.

  2. Examine plans and specifications of new construction of site alterations to residential and commercial projects to determine compliance with the provisions of applicable city, state, and federal construction codes, ordinances, rules, and regulations.

  3. Inspect installation of communication, gas, electric lines located within the City’s Rights-of-Way (ROW) utility easement.

  4. Inspect sites to ensure that the erosion control/Stormwater pollution prevention plan (SWPPP).

  5. Conduct inspections of underground pipe installation (storm, sanitary, lift stations).

  6. Inspection of subsurface components for roadway (subbase/base, asphalt paving).

  7. Inspect commercial sites to ensure that ADA accessibility requirements for the site is met (site).

  8. Mass grading/ site clearing inspections.

  9. Inspection of sidewalks, ramps, and curbs for compliance.

  10. Ensuring with residential inspections that the site is draining properly.

  11. Landscape inspections

  12. Respond to citizen complaints and concerns

  13. Issue notices to comply on violations; maintain records of history of facts for possible legal actions.

  14. Log, route, track, and process all incoming plans; respond to code and related questions in person and on the phone.

  15. Maintain files, records, and reports regarding inspection and plan check activities and findings.

  16. Confer with and provide information and assistance to architects, engineers, contractors, builders, and the public in the field and office; explain and interpret applicable codes, ordinances, and zoning regulations.

  17. Attend and participate in meetings; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of building inspection and plans examination.

  18. Perform related duties as required.

Minimum Starting Salary:

Engineering Inspector I : $24.48 - $31.21, per hour, depending on qualifications

Engineering Inspector II: $25.85 to $32.96 per hour, depending on qualifications

Engineering Inspector III: $27.46 to $35.01 per hour, depending on qualifications

Minimum Requirements

Associates Degree with construction related coursework in area of assignment.

Engineering Inspector I - Permitting Services: Associate's Degree with construction-related coursework in area of assignment. The employee MUST be able to examine plans and specifications of new construction, and alterations to residential and commercial site plans to determine compliance with the provisions of applicable city, state, and federal construction codes, ordinances, rules and regulations. Minimum of three (3) years experience in site construction or an equivalent combination of post-secondary education, training, and experience totaling three (3) years. Must pass background check which includes a polygraph. A valid Florida Driver’s license is required.

Engineering Inspector II -Permitting Services: Associate's Degree with construction-related coursework in area of assignment. The employee MUST be able to examine plans and specifications of new construction, and alterations to residential and commercial site plans to determine compliance with the provisions of applicable city, state, and federal construction codes, ordinances, rules and regulations. Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in site construction required or equivalent combination of post-secondary education, training and experience. FDOT Asphalt Paving Technician – Level 1 certification and FDOT Earthwork Construction Inspections – Level 1 certification required. Must pass background check which includes a polygraph. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as a new or unusual situation arise and are fully aware of the operation procedures and policies of the work unit. Promotions are not to be considered an automatic function of longevity and subject to the review and authorization of the Supervisor. The employee’s last performance review must have resulted in an overall rating of Meets standards or better with on factor rating less than meets. A valid Florida Driver’s license is required.

Engineering Inspector III – Permitting Services: Associate's Degree with construction-related coursework in area of assignment. The employee MUST be able to examine plans and specifications of new construction, and alterations to residential and commercial site plans to determine compliance with the provisions of applicable city, state, and federal construction codes, ordinances, rules and regulations. Minimum of seven (7) years’ experience in site construction required or an equivalent combination of post-secondary education, training and experience. Must possess both FDOT Asphalt Paving Technician – Level 2 and FDOT Earthwork Construction Inspection. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. Promotions are not to be considered an automatic function of longevity and are subject to the review and authorization of the Supervisor. The employee’s last performance review must have resulted in an overall rating of Meets standards or better with on factor rating less than meets. A valid Florida Driver’s license is required.

VALID DRIVER LICENSE FROM ANY STATE MUST BE PRESENTED AT TIME OF INTERVIEW. VALID FLORIDA DRIVER LICENSE MUST BE PRESENTED WITHIN 30 DAYS OF HIRE.
