Navistar, Inc. Environmental Health and Safety Manager in Elmendorf, Texas

Position Overview

Navistar has a great opportunity for an experienced Environmental-Health-Safety (EHS) Manager at our Navistar Advanced Technology Center located just south of San Antonio, in Elmendorf, Texas.

This position is responsible for the EHS for the site. The chosen individual will develop, plan, and implement EHS policies. The intent of this role is to effectively integrate EHS programs site wide while maintaining compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local safety laws and standards, as well as corporate level EHS standards and requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, implements, monitors, and reports out on site safety, environmental, and sustainability programs. Maintains ISO 9001 compliance.

  • Maintains site compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws, policies, codes, and regulations pertaining to environmental and safety.

  • Handles all contact with appropriate agencies. Seeks consultation from outside agencies and corporate departments when necessary. Ensure all required reporting is delivered on-time.

  • Conducts and support EHS hazard identification, evaluation, and control (risk assessments) and mitigation for new and existing equipment and processes. Develops and ensure implementation of corrective action where EHS hazards exist.

  • Oversees licensed hazardous waste inventory, disposal, and monitors waste handling. Works with suppliers to ensure waste is appropriately disposed.

  • Develops, implements, and maintains required safety and health programs and processes such as emergency response procedures, inspections, ISO 14001, ergonomics, fall-protection, hazardous material handling, spill response, etc.

  • Conducts accident investigations.

  • Ensure effective development and delivery of all EHS related training and education programs while maintaining EHS records and continuous compliance.

  • Interacts with a variety of departments regarding EHS by training, mentoring, coaching, and auditing others. Responsible for EHS related equipment.

  • Maintains and coordinates EHS performance metrics including objective tracking and ensures that performance data is communicated to management and corporate compliance group.

  • Completes other projects and tasks as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • At least 8 years of health and safety experience

  • At least 2 years of management experience

OR

  • Master’s degree

  • At least 6 years of health and safety experience

  • At least 2 years of management experience

OR

  • At least 10 years of health and safety experience

  • At least 2 years of management experience

Additional Requirements

  • Qualified candidates, excluding current Navistar employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. Navistar does not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B status)

Desired Skills

  • Experience with EHS site management.

  • Knowledge of EPA, state, and local environmental regulations and standards.

  • Knowledge of Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), Texas Spill Prevention, Control & Countermeasure (SPCC), and Texas State Water Plan (SWP) requirements, procedures, permitting, and reporting.

  • Knowledge of Ozone-Depleting Substances (ODS) Recordkeeping, Air Emissions Inventory (AEI),

  • Knowledge of OSHA and other relevant safety regulations and standards.

  • Experience working with and providing reports to government agencies.

  • Understanding of ISO 9001. Familiarity with data bases to enter data and create reports.

  • Experience leading cross functional teams and working with multiple departments.

  • Automotive manufacturing or manufacturing experience.

  • Basic Microsoft Office skills; Excel, PowerPoint, Word, & Teams.
