Position Description:

The Electrical Controls Engineer will be a key member of the engineering team who helps support various initiatives throughout the manufacturing facility. The candidate will work with process engineering, maintenance, and production to help solves electromechanical issues, and support improvements requested by these groups. The incumbent will also be a critical member of all new equipment specification and design processes. This engineer has sufficient experience and knowledge to train and mentor others including unionized electricians and other engineers.

Responsibilities:

  • To be one of the Process Experts regarding equipment and process issues, including (but not limited to) equipment downtime and production support of nonconforming product.

  • Identify, implement and maintain opportunities for technical improvement with existing Process Engineers and Technical Support Team members.

  • Project Management. Take responsibility for large-scale projects including design, supplier identification, fabrication, budget and timing to ensure a successful launch within the required scope of the project as it relates to Electrical and Control aspects.

  • Continuous Improvement Driver: Improve profitability and efficiencies of Business Unit(s) through implementation of process improvements affecting scrap, labor and downtime. Drive continuous improvement initiatives and cost savings through application of Lean and Six Sigma Manufacturing techniques such as 6S, SMED and Error-proofing.

  • Help support and lead the electricians in completing their assigned work orders and troubleshooting tasks.

  • Responsible for equipment purchases, as necessary, including presenting justification for capital expenses on new equipment or process improvements, as well as design, specification, and standardization of equipment,

  • Design and manage new equipment process development, timing, budget, setup, debug and training.

  • Work with Operations, Engineering, and Quality departments to create and edit the plant floor data collection system along with helping to troubleshoot issues occurring within it.

  • Support various groups’ requests around data collection by being able to specify and tag new or additional sensors into the plant historian system. Additional help will be needed to refine logic around data collection to better understand equipment performance.

  • Able to adhere to all company and location policies and safety rules.

  • Able to work extended hours, and support off-shift calls when required.

  • All other duties as assigned.

  • Qualifications:

    • A BS degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Experience in a manufacturing plant setting

  • Familiarity with NEC

  • Proven understanding of control and instrumentation systems in an industrial manufacturing environment.

  • Able to quickly comprehend process flow and all input/outputs of a system.

  • Technical experience with Allen Bradley including troubleshooting, PLC programming and system modifications in order to provide support and improvement of current and new equipment.

  • Technical experience & troubleshooting skills around VFDs, servo drives, pumps, and other electrically driven industrial components

  • Technical experience and familiarization with robotics and automation troubleshooting/programming to provide support in this area.

  • Proven experience in installation and troubleshooting of electrical equipment such as low/medium/high voltage switchgear, transformers, motors and distribution systems.

  • Technical knowledge of Industrial Networking including but not limited to Ethernet, RS 232 /485, and CANBUS protocols (i.e., DEVICENET, PROFIBUS, etc)

  • Experience Designing and Integrating DCS and SCADA systems for “Real-Time” Data access

  • Collects, calculates, and analyzes data in support of production activities and prepares reports on findings, making recommendations to Engineering and Production Management.

    Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • Familiar with industrial PCs and OPC software in order to manage and collect data on manufacturing assets.

  • Experience in chemical plants & processes

  • Some mechanical inclination.

  • AutoCAD Electrical

  • Wonderware

Compensation:

  • $90,000 - $115,000/annual DoE
