Job Summary

Assist in the annual planning and forecasting process for assigned fixed and variable expenses areas. Prepare monthly variance analysis to compare actual performance against plan for same areas. Preparation of assigned monthly reports for operations management. Complexity of the tasks with the essential functions outlined below will vary based on the incumbent's level of experience. All job duties and responsibilities must be carried out in compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparation of the annual budget and forecast for assigned areas. To include working with operational contacts to accumulate budget data and processing data into the planning software, updating / building budget templates, reports and management analysis as needed during the budget process.
  • Prepare monthly variance analysis to compare actual financial results to budget throughout the year for cost centers assigned and related parent rollups. Work with operational contacts to obtain understanding of operational issues and resolve variances when appropriate.
  • Assist Managers for assigned areas with questions during the budget process and throughout the year to include any special analysis requested (as approved by the Financial Planning Supervisor/Director).
  • Assist in the preparation and gathering of support for the monthly Financial Planning journal entry and forward to Financial Accounting prior to the allocation run by Financial Accounting.
  • Prepare monthly profitability package for the special segments of Flood and E&S in accordance with the Financial Planning month end calendar.
  • Assist the Senior Financial Planning Systems Analyst as needed related to TM1 and Sharepoint issues and development.
  • Special projects preparation, ad hoc analysis and meeting participation, as assigned.

Education and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or Economics preferred.
  • Years of Experience: 5 - 7 Years
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office/Excel.
  • Prior experience with OLAP database software, Hyperion, PeopleSoft General Ledger, or Sharepoint highly desirable.
  • Must have the ability to work as part of a team and interact with operations personnel.
  • Document analysis/ information and procedures in a concise manner.
  • Communicate effectively in speech and written work.
  • Excellent financial analytical skills and problem-solving ability.

The expected starting salary range for this role is$90,000 - $130,000. The actual base salary is based on geographic location, and the range is representative of salaries for this role throughout Selective's footprint. Additional considerations include relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, performance, and business needs.
