Burns & McDonnell Staff Electrical Engineer– Substation (Atlanta) in Atlanta, Georgia
Description
Responsible for substation engineering and consulting services for clients across the US and internationally. Main responsibilities include creating electrical protection & control and/or physical layout design deliverables. Projects range in size, complexity, and voltage class from small distribution equipment upgrades to large transmission projects. This position can influence the future of the resiliency and reliability of the electric grid. Opportunities to advance into leadership roles are available.
Position may include full or partial responsibility of the following assignments:
Develop scopes of work, conceptual designs, and execution plans
Prepare engineering cost and man-hour estimates and schedules
Protection and control design including panel arrangements, one lines/single lines, three lines, AC schematics, DC elementaries, equipment wiring and relay panel wiring
Develop protective relay setting for transmission & distribution systems including calculation of relay set points, logic diagrams, configuration files and documentation
Perform Short circuit studies and protection coordination studies for transmission and distribution systems
Prepare calculations for studies and reports (grounding, lighting protection, AC/DC load studies, etc.)
Prepare equipment specifications for procurement and/or factory acceptance testing
Coordinate design activities with other departments (Civil/Structural, Networks, Transmission Line, etc.)
Provide guidance and mentoring to less experienced team members
Regularly meet and correspond with clients or outside personnel
Provide short term field support during construction
Support business development and marketing initiatives
Other areas of involvement may include: physical substation design, 3D modeling/design, or industry/professional technical committee involvement
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from accredited program
Minimum 3 years related experience (completion of master's degree in related field may be substituted for one year of experience)
Completion of FE exam strongly preferred
Proficiency with National Electrical Safety Code and IEEE / ANSI Standards
Strong preference for those with:
Excellent written & verbal communication skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Capability of solving difficult problems that require adaptation and modification of standard approaches, techniques, procedures and criteria
